Man injured in Hunting Park shooting; officer discharged weapon during incident

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- An investigation is underway after a man was injured during a shooting in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia that also involved an officer firing his weapon.

It all began around 8:30 p.m. Monday when officers responded to a report of a man with a gun at the Sunoco gas station located on the 4100 block of N. Broad Street.

Officers arrived to find several men involved in an argument.

The group left the gas station and crossed the street toward the intersection of Broad and Jerome. Police say that's where the confrontation turned violent.

During the fight, police say a 29-year-old man allegedly pulled out a gun and shot another man.

An officer saw the shooting and fired at the suspect, but the suspect was not hit.

That officer then chased down the suspect on foot and took him into custody in the 1300 block of W. Jerome Street without further incident.

A handgun believed to belong to the suspect was found underneath a car parked on Jerome Street, police said.
